“What constitutes a good manager in this field? He must be knowledgeable in the art with which he is concerned, an impresario, labor negotiator, diplomat, educator, publicity and public relations expert, politician, skilled businessman, a social sophisticate, a servant of the community, a tireless leader -- becomingly humble before authority -- a teacher, a tyrant, and a continuing student of the arts.”

Brief Professional History
Currently, Scott operates Langdon Designs, an independent theatrical consulting service, and serves as the Associate District Theatre Manager of the Oswego Community Unit School District 308 in Oswego, IL. At his current position, Bedell takes immense pride in the education of students and helps stage a variety of productions. Bedell looks forward to designing, teaching, training, and presenting some of the finest programs in Northern Illinois with Oswego Community Unit School District 308.
Prior to his position in Oswego, Langdon Designs independently consulted on the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, Illinois leading to re-opening of the one hundred year old venue after extensive renovations. Upon completion of the restored Wildey Theatre, Bedell was invited to stay on at the Wildey Theatre serving as the Production & Technical Director and eventually as the Theatre Manager.
These recent endeavors follow a long history of Bedell’s work in theatre management and theatre education. Before working at the Wildey Theatre, he spent two and a half years working for the Department of Theater and Dance at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville (SIUE). There he served as a Faculty Member, House Manager, Assistant in Theater and Assistant to the Theater Manager.
Bedell also worked across the greater Chicago area designing and putting on special events. Specifically, he worked as house crew for the following venues: Pfeiffer Hall, Meiley-Swallows Thrust Theatre, Wentz Concert Hall, Madden Black Box, Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace, and Drury Lane Water Tower Place. While working at these venues he also worked at the oldest scenic studio—prior to its closure—Becker Studios. All of these opportunities allowed Bedell to hone his theatrical skills and gain a plethora of knowledge to share with others.
In addition to his work experience, Bedell received vocational training from representatives of Harmon, BSS, Symetrix, Roland, Bose, Rane, Yamaha, Shure, Heil, ETC, and Strand. Of which Bedell holds a few official certifications and an arsenal of knowledge.
Bedell is also an active advocate for the fine arts and individuals with disabilities. Trained in website ADA compliance and document creation by WebAIM, Knowbility, and AccessU. He hopes to help others understand and overcome stigmas surrounding disabilities.
In his free time, Bedell spends his off hours working as a professional photographer. Bedell’s professional photos are available at Langdon Designs’ Photography.
